Several ecological surveys can only be carried out at particular times of the year. For example a great crested newt survey will normally be undertaken between the middle of March and the middle of June. Surveys can only be carried out when the night time temperature is greater than 5°C. Two of the surveys must be done between mid April and mid May. Bat surveys are usually carried out between April and September.
